What is a Pareo?
The Pareo is a simple garment-- a rectangular piece of cloth about 2 - 2.5m (6 - 8 ft) in length and 40 to 48 inches wide. It is commonly worn on the French Polynesia islands by men, women and children in the past but have been found all over the world today. This special cloth has other uses as well: as curtains, bed covers, car seat covers, beach spreads-- limited only by the imagination. Not to be mistaken with the sarong which is slightly smaller and is usually sewn together.
Pareos comes is colorful designs ranging from ethnic to modern arts, more commonly found are those that depicts marine lifeforms and nature these colorful designs that ornament the pareo are perhaps the strongest feature found on the islands. Made out of cotton and rayon fabrics they are extremely comfortable and cool to wear in the tropics.
The graphics on the pareo are done by using the 'Batik painting' process or by a block printing process which is usually done on cotton or rayon in the past but have expanded to higher quality fabrics such as silk, voile, and chiffon.

The Pareo Shop produces fine hand drawn pareos available on silk, voile, crepe silk and chiffon. Only high quality fabrics and ink is used on all hand drawn pieces, each pareo is an individual piece of art that may takes more than a week to complete. It is only through such measures that enable us to produce some of the finest quality pareo's.
